When The Beastie Boys were revving up in the very late 1980s, they were into a lot of frat boy humour. How could they attract attention?
When they embarked on the License to Ill tour, one of their stage props was a gigantic 20-foot hydraulic penis. Which of the three guys thought of it first is lost to history, but we do know that they all loved the idea because it was the most idiotic thing ever. They had to do it, so they did. When it came time to play “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party),” this thing would rise out of the stage.
As far as I know, the Beasties only used it for this one tour, but they still have it. It’s sitting in a five-by-five storage box in a warehouse in New Jersey. They have no use for it anymore, but it seems like a shame to throw it out.
