Weezer Score Huge Hit 12 Years After Its Release

Whether on social media or on the radio, you may have heard a new Weezer song recently. “Go Away” is a #1 alternative radio hit and has also appeared on the Billboard Hot 100, their first song to do that since their viral cover of Toto’s “Africa” did that in 2018. It’s one of their highest ranking songs on that chart.

It’s also twelve years old.

“Go Away” was originally included on the band’s 2014 record Everything Will Be Alright in the End, a promotional single that was not given an official radio release like the three other singles from that album. It featured Best Coast singer Bethany Cosentino on guest vocals and a video was shot, but it was not a major hit – until 2026.

Earlier in the year “Go Away” experienced a massive surge of popularity on social media platform TikTok, so much that both Rivers Cuomo and Bethany Cosentino participated in the viral trend on their own TikTok accounts.

The song’s sudden boom comes as the band prep yet another record for release, their Gold Album – their first since the SZNZ quartet of EPs.
