There are plenty of strange conspiracies in the music world, with a large number of them having to do with Kurt Cobain. Some people believe that Kurt faked his death and assumed a new identity, one that he’s still using today.
Kurt died on April 5, 1994. On May 10, Weezer, featuring frontman and songwriter Rivers Cuomo, released their debut album on DGC, the same label as Nirvana. Rivers professed his admiration for Nirvana from the very beginning, citing the band as a major influence when it came to the raw style of that first record.
The internet has since speculated that Rivers is actually Kurt operating under a new identity. The satire was lost on far too many people, and the story started to have legs. Rivers thinks this is funny, by the way, and has often joked about the conspiracy being true.
It’s not.
