Ongoing History Daily: Streets named after rock stars

If you make it big enough, some town or city will name a street after you.

  • There’s Rue David Bowie in the 13th Arrondissement in Paris.
  • You can go for a walk down Placeta Joe Strummer in Grenada, Spain.
  • We have Beastie Boys Square in New York City, just as there’s also Joey Ramone Place and U2 Way.
  • Dave Grohl Alley is in his birthplace of Warren, Ohio.
  • The Flaming Lips also have an alley named after them in Oklahoma City.
  • There’s the punny Korn Row in the band’s hometown of Bakersfield, California.
  • Paul Shaffer, best known as the musical director for David Letterman, has Paul Shaffer Way in his hometown of Thunder Bay.
  • But who has the most streets named after them worldwide? It’s The Beatles followed by AC/DC.
