For many years, Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante was very messed up with addiction. Not only did he lose all his teeth, but his house burned down, taking a lot of his guitars with it.
When he finally made it into rehab, John needed something to keep his mind occupied. He wanted a guitar, but they’d all gone in the fire. That’s when he called up Dave Navarro, his replacement in the Chili Peppers.
“Can you loan me a guitar while I’m in detox?” he asked.
Dave, being the understanding guy he is, brought over a brand new Les Paul that he’d purchased when he was asked to audition for Guns N’ Roses. John was very grateful. But when he got out of rehab, he sold the guitar, and it was gone forever.
Years later, though, John made it up to Dave, buying him a replacement.
