Ongoing History Daily: Worries about Chris Cornell

When Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell died in a Detroit hotel room on May 18, 2017, the entire music world was shocked, including his bandmates. However, bass player Ben Shepherd may have been slightly less surprised. He recalls feeling strange before the group left for that final tour.

“I knew something bad was going to happen,” he said in an interview, “Something came over me, and I deeply felt like I couldn’t do it. I went around and said goodbye to my family. I could feel it.” At first, he attributed the bad vibes to the fact that they’d interrupted recording an album to go on tour. Ben thought this was a terrible idea.

Makes you wonder what might have happened had Soundgarden stuck to working in the studio instead of going on the road.
