Five Songs You Must Hear This Week (28 July 2025)

The number of album release is down–a usual mid-summer thing–but the Five Songs You Must Hear list is full of great new singles.

1. Our Lady Peace, Whatever (Redux)
Single (Coalition)
Recommended If You Like: 30th anniversary celebrations

Our Lady Peace has spent the bulk of 2025 celebrating their 30th anniversary. The latest addition is a 22-year-old song that’s been a favourite with fans but one that they hadn’t performed live in 18 years. The original arrived in 2003 and was originally written for WWE wrestler Chris Benoit. Then, though, due to circumstances in 2007, the band had to separate itself from the song. Now it’s back in a re-recorded to “help shine a light on suicide prevention and mental health awareness.”

2. Oasis, Cigarettes and Alcohol (Live at Heaton Park)
Single (Sony)
RIYL: Well, it’s Oasis, innit?

As the Oasis reunion tour continues, the band has surprised people with how good and how tight they sound. It seems that the plan might be to release live recordings from some of the dates on the itinerary. The latest is this performance from one of the five dates at Manchester’s Heaton Park. This was captured on opening night.

3. Pulp, Tina
More (Rough Trade)
RIYL: The return of Britpop

While Oasis is the biggest Britpop story in the UK (okay, the world), Pulp’s reformation is a decent second. Their eighth studio album, released in June, continues to receive rave reviews from critics and fans. Here we go with the third single, which is another one of Jarvis Cocker’s observation songs about British people.

4. The Paradox, Bender
Single (Hundred Days Records)
RIYL: Pop-punk endorsed by Green Day and All-Time Low

Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker never sleeps. His latest project involved The Paradox, a four-piece who, up until six months ago, were all still living at their parents’ houses watching pop-punk videos, including a lot of Blink-182 tour films. The journey from that to having Barker play on this, their third-ever release, must be pretty surreal.

5. Kae Tempest, Diagnoses
Self-titled (Island)
RIYL: Lyrical density and intensity

Kae is a poet, spoken word performer, and singer specializing in conscious hip-hop. Her fifth studio album contains songs like this track, produced by Tom Rowlands of The Chemical Brothers. Looking for a summer song about antipsychotic drugs? Here you are.
