In 1995, Spacehog released their debut album, Resident Alien. It included a major hit single in “In the Meantime.” That, however, is the only hit that Spacehog has ever had. In an interview with SPIN magazine, frontman Royston Langdon confessed that the song’s success was the biggest impediment going forward.
Then the band somehow lost the rights to the song, and even though it was in the movie Guardians of the Galaxy (which put it back on the charts and goosed streaming numbers), so it’s unclear how much Spacehog may have made (or NOT made) from the song. The band carries on with various reunions, breakups, a new albums, but nothing close to the heights of In the Meantime.
It’s another example of how musicians should never skimp on lawyers’ fees when it comes to contracts.
