Ongoing History Daily: A very strange concert cancellation

For a concert to go off without a hitch, so many things have to go right and very few can go wrong. But last month, something went very wrong ahead of a Bryan Adams gig in Perth, Australia.

On February 9, fans were waiting to be let into the RAC Arena when they all got a text. It read “due to an external Water Corporation water supply issue which could not be resolved.” Specifically, the problem was a massive fatberg, a blob of fat, crease, rags, and sewage, that had clogged up the city’s sewer system in the vicinity of the arena. Sewage started backing up and overflowing into the street near the venue. Officials determined it was unsafe and too smelly for the show to go on.

A fatberg cancellation: That’s gotta be some kind of first.
