When The Mission released their second album, Children, in early 1988, this single immediately caught everyone’s attention. “Pretty Zeppelin-ish, innit?” Yeah, it was–and it should be given that it was produce by Led Zeppelin bass player John Paul Jones. He probably remembered recording a song called Kashmir.
Its origin was a tribute to The Eskimos, The Mission’s diehard fanbase, the people who gave the band strength to continue in their early years. John Paul Jones spend two full days programming the sequencer for the song, which gives you an idea of the day’s level of technology.
There is a seven-inch single edit of the song, but don’t cheat yourself. You need the full version to appreciate its majesty.
