There is no way to avoid being put on hold when you’re trying to get information on something or (worse yet) for some kind of technical support. When that happens, we get some kind of music. Most of it is completely generic custom-produced royalty-free stuff. That way the company putting you on hold doesn’t have to pay anyone for the privilege of playing proper songs while customers are in the queue.
There are variations to that, though. The last time I called Apple for tech support, I was prompted to choose from three genres of music. But the best on-hold music used to come with a call to WordPerfect tech support. They used to have a live DJ playing music for everyone waiting to talk to an agent. This DJ would also play requests and occasionally give a shout-out to someone in line.
Anyone know of anyone doing something this cool today?
