Throwback Thursday: The Headboys and The Shape of Things to Come (1979)

Whenever I change phones, all the music that was on the last device naturally follows with me. At this point, I have about 5,000 songs in my pocket and one of my great pleasures is putting things on shuffle to see what comes up.

This track from The Headboys startled and delighted me when it appeared in my earbuds. They came out of Edinburgh and Dundee, Scotland, in 1977. They were called Badger at first, but soon went with this more punky name. I must have been introduced this song by FM radio around 1979 when their debut album was released, a record that I ran out and bought. (I checked; it’s still in the library.) That means I must have had it on a mixtape for my Firebird back in my university days.

They tried to have more than this one hit, but it was never to be.
