Ongoing History Daily: More on the effects of loud music

Listening to loud music may feel good, but it’s not good for you. Here’s more evidence.

A study out of the UK by the Royal National Institute for Deaf People found that four out of five people who attended an outdoor festival showed signs of hearing damage. They talked to 2700 people who went to some of the big outdoor shows in the UK and 80% confessed to everything from hearing dullness to outright pain.

They also found that most festivals run their PA systems at levels where it can reach 110 decibels.  That’s about the same volume as a jet plane taking off.  Anything over 85 will cause hearing loss.  Sorry for nagging, but be careful, okay?
