It was around 11 pm on Monday, December 8, 1980, when the news started to come in. It began with this announcement from Howard Cosell on Monday Night Football. https://youtu.be/n73GFvAyIjs?si=DwThuOuZiRpasoJl Things quickly went into overdrive. https://youtu.be/k3pMYI4Q2uM?si=Y4pjAQQOwrhyiT4N https://youtu.be/H6g9j7_ZhBU?si=0TU7sbcuZo_XwHo3 https://youtu.be/Ve5uDZyyt1M?si=ggG_x2daOIOMAmtM It was more than a senseless killing. It was an assassination carried out by a non-descript security guard from Hawaii named Mark David Chapman. He was immediately arrested, quickly convicted, and sent to jail for 20 years to life. Yet even though he’s been up for parole many times, he’s still in prison.
This was one of the most high-profile killings in modern history and has been extensively reported on and investigated for decades. Yet incredibly, there is still a lot we don’t know about the murder of John Lennon.
This is episode 29 of Uncharted: Crime and Mayhem in the Music Industry. And this time, we look at some of the untold stories of the murder of John Lennon.
