Ongoing History Daily: The musical tastes of gorillas

In the summer of 2015, there was a study into the musical tastes of gorillas conducted this past summer. Yes, I’m talking about actual gorillas.

Three participated in the test. Researchers exposed them to different types of sounds and music. The recording that interested them the most was one featuring the natural sounds of the rainforest. The second most popular recording was a selection of Chopin pieces. Third place went to a playlist of songs by Muse. But going deeper into the data, researchers noted that each of the three gorillas displayed individual tastes in music.

The one named Koga turned out to be a fairly big Muse fan, always choosing that music second to the rainforest sounds. The one named Lily appeared to hate Muse.

So what does this all mean? That gorillas have individual musical tastes, just like us. Do what you will with that knowledge.
