Ongoing History: Promoting Nirvana's Bleach album

This may be a little frightening.  It has now been 35 years since Nirvana released their first album.  Bleach, a record they recorded over one Christmas break for exactly $606.17, came out on June 15, 1989.  They didn’t even have the money to pay for it.  Chad Channing, the band’s drummer at the time, tapped his buddy, Jason Everman for the cash.  At the time, they were just another Seattle band.

In that winter’s local music directory, here’s how they were listed–and I’m quoting verbatim: “Nirvana: Gunka, gunka, clank, ahh, plunk, deedle, deedle, wah, eeak, unk.”

That was followed by some phone numbers and an address.  I mean, who would have guessed, right?
