The Calgary Food Bank’s annual City-Wide Food Drive celebrates 20 consecutive years of community action on September 21!
This year, the Calgary Food Bank’s City-Wide Food Drive announces a BIG CHANGE:
In the past, they have delivered plastic bags for people to fill with food items, this year they are asking people to fill their own reuseable bag with non-perishable food. The reusable bag will be donated along with the food items. The Calgary Food Bank can reuse the donated reusable bags, as they are used to distribute food to clients.
For one week every September over 8,000 volunteers deliver hundreds of thousands of door hangers to homes across the city. Generous Calgarians then fill those bags with healthy, nutritious, and much needed non-perishable food items and leave the bag on their driveway or doorstep. Those same volunteers then pick up your donations on Saturday, September 21 at 10 am, bringing them back to the Calgary Food Bank to be sorted and distributed to Calgarians.
Door hangers will be distributed in select communities, the week before the 21st. This year’s most needed items include:
-
- Diapers
- Canned Pasta Sauce
- Pasta
- Rice
- Whole Grained Cereal
Not every community will receive door hangers. If you do not receive one, but you still want to support the food drive, you can go online to calgaryfoodbank.com to donate. The Calgary Food Bank can leverage every dollar donated into $3.50 worth of food. Imagine the impact you can make!
